Alan Booth
Alan Booth draws his inspiration from the inherent beauty of natural forms, which is evident throughout his body of work. His subjects and landscapes are sourced globally, reflecting a broad artistic perspective. For Afterstone, Alan has created urns in four distinct sizes, utilising a specialised Raku clay engineered to withstand thermal shock. Each form is carefully turned and burnished, resulting in a refined, polished surface upon completion.
Alan trained in Staffordshire under Derek Emms, focusing on 'hand-thrown' and industrial ceramics. A degree in multidisciplinary design – utilising various discrete media, including illustration and photography, and ultimately specialising in ceramics.
Alan's studio is located in Shaftesbury, North Dorset…close to the foot of 'Gold Hill' (of Hovis advert fame). Raku firings take place in his garden studio, which looks out over the Cranborne Chase and Melbury Beacon. A glorious rural environment for inspiration and creativity.
