What an icon adds to an engraved memorial stone

Icons on grave headstones, memorial stone pebbles and Afterstones, help to share a person's story, their beliefs and personality in a single glance. 

Because stones often have limited space for text, these icon symbols serve as visual shorthand to convey meaning, honour the deceased, and offer comfort to those grieving loss.

Some people use an icon to say the thing words cannot. The love, something that made them, well, them. The garden they spent so much time tending. The bird that turned up the week after they died. A small mark, engraved into stone, to help you remember them. 

How to add an engraved icon to your order

• Decide whether you want a memorial stone or Afterstone piece
  
• Find your icon below and note its item number and name.
• On the product page for your selected item, you will be asked to select the option that best matches your needs. This is based upon: 

1. 1. the number of lines of engraving you require
   2. whether you want an icon
   3. if you want to receive an email with your engraving laid out for approval before engraving starts
      

• In the icon special instructions box, enter the icon item number and the icon name, exactly as shown. For example: 61. Holly
  
• In the design special instructions – note if you want one of the lines larger/smaller, if you want the icon above/below a specific line, or if it should be to the left or right of a line, at an angle, etc.
• If you don't know and need advice, we are always happy to recommend the best design layout. 

Getting the icon number and the name in and where you want it positioned is the part that matters. It ensures your stone is cut to your expectations.

We lay out your engraved words and your icon, send you a photo proof, and wait. Nothing is engraved until you say yes. If the spacing looks wrong to you, or you want the icon on the other side, or you have changed your mind about a date, that is the moment to tell us. Once a stone is engraved, it cannot be amended.

Couldn't find what you were after? If the icon you want is not here in our engraving library, email us with the image or an idea and we will tell you honestly whether it will work. Fine detail does not always survive at this size, and we would rather say so than send you something disappointing.
