Frequently asked questions - pottery

Why invest in hand-thrown pottery?

Unique Character: No two pieces are exactly identical. The hand-throwing process ensures each ceramic item has
its own personality, with subtle variations in form, glaze, and finish.

Traditional Craftsmanship: Our pottery is created using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations of ceramic artists. Each piece is wheel-thrown, hand-finished, and carefully fired.

South West Artisan Quality: Crafted in Devon and Dorset by skilled potters who understand the relationship between clay, glaze, and fire. The result is pottery that's both beautiful and enduring.

Natural Materials: We use high-quality clays, glazes and natural materials like horsehair that honour the natural properties of ceramic materials, resulting in pieces with organic beauty and tactile appeal.

Caring for your pottery

Hand-thrown pottery is designed to last for generations when properly cared for. We recommend gentle hand washing for functional pieces and keeping decorative ceramics away from extreme temperature changes. Each piece comes with specific care instructions to ensure its longevity.

When will I get my pottery order?

We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Pottery items such as the candle plate and match pots we keep in stock – these are dispatched promptly.

For larger and bespoke items that contain loved ones' ashes, it will take approximately 6 weeks from purchase to receive your items. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information and we keep you updated regularly.

Where are your products manufactured?

We are proud to support British manufacturing and supporting local people. Our pottery products are all made locally to Afterstone in the South West of England. We work with a number of local consultants and designers who help bring Afterstone to life. We work with British-based suppliers and manufacturers for our ash scatters, candles, printed stationery, stones and packaging supplies.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is calculated based on your location and the items (weight and volume) in your order. You will always know the shipping price before you purchase.
